Research and Planning: Double Page Spread Story
As many people know the band 'SOLID' broke up early this week, this was due to a large number of disputes between the lead singer and drummer, this came as quite a shock since it was both of them which founded the band and recruited then recruited their other two members: Archie the bassist, and Owen the lead guitarist. The creation of their first single came less than a month after that.
The band was founded in 1998 by Micheal Gardner and Will Saxon who both auditioned to be part of a different band on the same day, it was lucky for them to have not got in because after neither of them were selected to be part of the other band they began talking and created a band of their own. The band hit big with the release of their first single 'The Runaround' which eventually sold a million copies and funded their first album which was self named. The album was release a year after their single in 1999 and was followed by 3 albums each featuring 8 songs, with various favorites among their fans.
The 2nd album called 'Double Boost' was release on 12th November 2004 leaving themselves in the dark for a staggering 5 years with only the casual single being released every couple of years to retain the interest of their fans. The 3rd album named 'A Stranger Shore' was released a lot faster than that, being released on 28th February 2005, just 3 months after their previous album. Their final album apparently spelt out the end as it was named 'Split Apart' released 3rd January 2011. Considering the name the fans still said that the band was 'solid' and would never 'split apart' even though the band deliberately avoided the question in many interviews, but also stated that it had been rocky at times.
When asked the members all said something slightly different about the reason they broke up however it all pointed to the fact that they wanted the band to go in different directions, and apparently it was surprising that they released 3 more albums especially since this arguing over the direction that they were moving in was going on since 2000.
'SOLID' may have broken up, the members going in separate directions, but the strangest of all decisions was the fact that the lead singer decided on a solo career. " I'll work on my own for a while..." he commented in passing when asked, giving no other explanation but that. Although he did mention that he was hoping that this solo career would be as successful as the first couple of years that the band had, but "without the drama". He was obviously a bit sore about the way that it ended for 'SOLID'. When asked if there would be any comeback tours or any chance that they would became 'SOLID' again, almost all of the members said "you'll have to wait and see". so there could be a large chance that 'SOLID' will rejoin if only for a little while.

Another point on mise en scene is the facial expressions I would like my model to use and the connotations I would like to get across with the use of these expressions.
For the cover photo I would like the facial expression to be sad as this would follow the design of the title on the double page spread. (Band breaks being the first words of the title) This will be to give the idea that he is sad that the band has broken up after so long. However I particularly want the model to look away from the camera and be looking to the left. (as in to the past). Showing that he is reminicing about he past and that is making him sad.
I want the double page spread to give of the opposite effect showing that he is happily looking towards the future, so he would be smiling and turned to the right or leaning for example. giving the impression that he's moving forwards.

Research and Planning: Extra post 1
I would like to mention mise en scene. The picture to be used on my front cover should have someone sat by themselves wearing a smart suit jacket, smart shoes and a red tie. i would like them to be positioned on clean stone steps. i'm hoping this would connotate to him looking like he's trying to make a good impression, but also that hes secluded. This would relate to the title of the story being that a band member is becoming a solo artist. The stone steps would connotate to the fact that it s difficult to start as a solo artist however he intends to become better, 'move further up the steps'.
The image i would like to take for my double page spread will have the same person as the cover however they will be wearing more casual clothing, however i may have the red tie hanging out of his pocket as an example (i would like this to show that he is still the same person from the front cover, this will be done by using the same colour of re in a part of his clothing).
This would hopefully show that although hes still new to being a solo artist he is more comfortable with being on his own now, but still intends to improve.

Research and Design: Model Headshots (needs to be altered from draft form)
Would be suitable for my magazine:
male
has the typical of rock look to him
looks quite mature
looks a bit immature for the rock/metal genre.

Reseach and Planning: Music Magazine Redone Drafts
The previous post claiming that there were redone drafts were there
because i had decided to alter the previous drafts as i believed them to
be better. These drafts take a degree of audience feedback into
account, also i had annotated them so that i understand clearly how each
part of it should look.

Research and Planning: Equipment + Software List
SLR Camera: Needed to take professional looking shots of my models.
Computer: Obviously needed to run the programs and software.
Photoshop: This will be used to create my magazine, and keep it to a professional standard.
Indesign: Will need this to create my contents page.
I will need my props (On the other post) as well as the clothing
I may need a Tripod, depending on the shots i may need to take.

Research and Planning: Costume/ Prop List
Clothing:
Cover - Suit, Red Tie, Smart shoes. (Generally showing that since the main story is abut a band breaking up and an artist going solo, i want it to show that since the person is moving into a new area he wants to make a good impression as a start, e.g. wearing the suit and tie. Also its as if hes dressing for the bands funeral as its no longer going on, except the only difference is the red tie which is generally to keep the central image from just being black an white.
Double page spread - Black jacket, Jeans, trainers. (over the transition between the cover to the double page spread i want to get across the idea that he's moved on and is looking towards the future therefore he will be wearing a more casual getup rather than professional. I may attempt to carry over the red colour to this casual clothing as this will be an association between him still looking professional.
Props and settings:
Guitar both Electric and acoustic. (I will pick one over the other once i have come up with some details in the story e.g. what type of music the band plays or the role f the band member)
Drum kit. (may be necessary for another picture on the front cover or contents page to fill up space)
Stone stairs. (Possible area to shoot central image on cover)
Amplifier (if i choose to use the electric guitar and more space can be filled in in the shot)
